“Every self will be tasting of death. And We try you with evil and charity (or: good) for a temptation, and to Us you will be returned.”
The death of a family member can have a huge emotional and financial impact on a family and community. Whilst funeral and burial committee’s (where family and village groups pay a small membership fee each year to pay for the burial of members as they pass away) are a feature of Pakistani cultural life, they are practically unknown amongst the Bangladeshi community. To this end, Sylhet Funeral Committee was formed by a group of volunteers with the explicit purpose of creating a similar organisation to help the Bangladeshi community in the UK with expensive burial costs. Sylhet Funeral Committee is open to all Bangladeshis of Sylheti origin and their families residing in the UK.
Sylhet Funeral Committee is a non-profitable organisation (not a profit making business) with the sole purpose of raising funds from its members to be used strictly for the burial costs of members and their loved ones as they pass away. The organisation works on an informal agreement amongst all members of the committee and is not a financial or insurance product. All funds raised are used for burial purposes as outlined in our Rules & Regulations. Any and all work undertaken for the organisation is on a voluntary basis and board members are not reimbursed for the work they carry out.
